‘Plenty and quiet’… the all new Greatness that has been decided and grown

The 7th generation Grandeur ‘The All New Grandeur’ is a car with a clear sense of purpose. It’s a family car, or a car you want to ride in the back seat. It means it is suitable as a family car or executive car. Considering the price point, I don’t see much of a downside. If I had to pick one, it was unfortunate that the initial acceleration felt slow. However, considering the purpose of the car, it is ambiguous to point it out as a disadvantage.

The All New Grandeur was tested on the 8th for a 90km round trip from Hanam, Gyeonggi Province to a cafe in Uijeongbu.

The New Greatness is a car that can be defined as ‘plenty’ or ‘spacious’ in one word. From the driver’s seat, I feel ‘enough’. The back seat is more spacious. In fact, The All New Grandeur is so big that the word ‘extremely low’ comes out. Overall length x width x height is 5035x1880x1460mm. It is larger than the K8 (5015x1875x1455mm), which was the first domestic sedan to exceed 5m and it drew attention. It is even longer than Hyundai Motor’s premium brand Genesis G80 (4995x1925x1465mm).

The feeling of spaciousness is felt not only in the seats, but also in the center console space where the gears were usually located. The most different thing about The All New Grandeur compared to the previous generation is the location of the gear along with the exterior design. The gear is attached to the back of the steering wheel (steering wheel) in column shift fashion. Thanks to this, the center console is free from other devices. Above the center console, a 10.25-inch large screen integrated air conditioning control is installed. A total of three displays, including the instrument panel display and infotainment display, are running, giving a futuristic feel.

The trunk is also spacious at 480 litres. Four golf bags, often used as a standard for measuring trunk space, fit.

However, the driving performance is a bit slow at first, perhaps due to its size. The test drive is a 3.5 GDI gasoline model (calligraphy trim). It has a maximum output of 300 horsepower and a maximum torque of 36.6 kg.m. It is numerically compliant, but the initial response is not immediate, perhaps due to the unprecedented size. However, it is sufficient for city driving, and quietness and safety are highlighted as advantages at high speeds. Switching to Sport mode improves the sluggishness, but it’s not satisfactory.

However, considering the size and price range of the car, I thought it was pretty great. The test drive model earned 56.05 million won (based on 3.5% individual consumption tax) with a panoramic sunroof, high-tech package, and rear seat VIP package applied. The starting price is 37.16 million won for the gasoline model, 43.76 million won for the hybrid model, and 38.63 million won for the LPG trim.

Silence is a big plus. Hyundai Motor Company applied double-glazed sound insulation glass to all seats for quietness. Road noise reduction technology (ANC-R), sound-absorbing tyres, and a detachable carpet with a 70% increase in sound-absorbing area were also installed.
