The teenager was last seen leaving his mother’s residence with an unidentified man shortly after sustaining a head injury during the incident.
The disappearance of Thamsanqa Tshefu
The sequence of events began on the evening of September 27, 2026, when neighbors alerted Thamsanqa’s mother that his shack at the Lombards Ground in Missionvale had burned down. Approximately one hour later, at 10:00 p.m., the teenager arrived at his mother’s home. According to police, the boy had a bleeding head, though he did not provide his mother with an explanation regarding the fire or his injury.
Shortly after his arrival, an unknown man approached the mother’s home and left with Thamsanqa. Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg stated that the man did not disclose his identity or his destination. This encounter marks the last confirmed sighting of the teenager.

Police investigation and public appeal
A formal missing person’s report was filed at the Algoa Park Police Station on September 29, 2026. Authorities have conducted follow-up inquiries at the homes of friends and relatives, but these efforts have not yielded information regarding the boy’s whereabouts.
Thamsanqa was last seen wearing black-and-blue faded tracksuit pants, a white T-shirt, and a white jersey. Investigators are now urging members of the public to come forward with any details that could assist in locating him.
The Gqeberha Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is handling the investigation.
