The silver medalist in track and field at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games has put his first medal at auction. After hearing the story of a baby suffering from heart disease, it is to raise money for surgery to help him.

According to ESPN on the 18th (Korean time), the silver medal of Polish women’s national javelin thrower Maria Andreiček (25) was auctioned off for $125,000 (about 147 million won).

The medal was won by ‘Zavka’, a Polish supermarket chain.

Andreichk gave this money to an 8-month-old child who needed urgent surgery due to heart disease, and the child was safely operated on at Stanford University Hospital in the United States.

In addition, Javka, who learned the story, returned the medal to Andreiček, and it became a ‘happy ending’.

“I thought saving a life was worth more than a medal piling up in the dust in the closet,” Andreichk said. “I’m so glad I could help a young child through the auction.”

Meanwhile, he won the silver medal in the women’s javelin throw at the Tokyo Olympics by throwing 64.61m.

He was defeated by China’s Liu Xiing (66.34 m), who won the gold medal, but he achieved his first Olympic medal in the second place.
