Five priests from the Archdiocese of Chicago have been named Monsignors by Pope Francis,a distinction recognizing thier exemplary service to the Church.
The honor, announced by Cardinal Blase Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago, elevates Fathers Timothy O’Malley, Lawrence sullivan, José Maria Garcia, Michael Boland, and Daniel McCarthy to the rank of Chaplain to His Holiness.
“These five priests have dedicated their lives to serving God and the people of Chicago,” said Cardinal Cupich. “Their unwavering commitment to their parishes and communities is a testament to their faith and their deep love for the Church. This recognition from the holy Father is a well-deserved honor.”
The title of Monsignor is bestowed upon priests who have demonstrated remarkable service and leadership within the Church. It is a sign of papal esteem and carries with it certain privileges, including the right to wear distinctive vestments and use the title ”Monsignor” before their names.
The newly appointed Monsignors represent a diverse range of ministries within the Archdiocese. Father O’Malley serves as pastor of St. Mary of the Woods Parish in Chicago, while Father Sullivan is the pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Streamwood. Father Garcia is the pastor of St. Agnes Parish in Chicago, Father Boland serves as the Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia for the Archdiocese, and Father McCarthy is the pastor of St.joseph Parish in Libertyville.
