A large protest outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Portland, OR, devolved into a riot Saturday, according too the Portland Police Bureau. The incident occurred amid widespread “No Kings” demonstrations and national unrest.
Police reported that the demonstration, drawing “tens of thousands” of participants, remained peaceful for much of Saturday afternoon. However, tensions escalated around 6 p.m. when a federal officer sustained injuries, authorities said.
Sabian Crisantos, 25, was arrested around 8 p.m. for allegedly attempting to assault a public safety officer. Throughout the evening, police said they observed criminal behavior and made targeted arrests. officers patrolled on bikes, but at times, their presence heightened tensions, prompting them to disengage while remaining in the area.
Tyson Kahnert,20,was arrested just before 11 p.m. after allegedly throwing a rock at a building. He faces charges including criminal mischief. Cory Oien, 38, was arrested around 1 a.m. Sunday for theft and driving under the influence after he was allegedly seen taking traffic control devices and placing them in his truck.
All three were booked into the multnomah County Detention Center, police confirmed. The riot declaration was lifted by 9:15 p.m. Saturday.
