POSCO DX Reports Increased Sales and Operating Profit in Q2

Group Companies’ Investments in Environmentally Friendly Materials Contribute to Growth

POSCO DX, a subsidiary of POSCO, has reported a significant increase in sales and operating profit in the second quarter of 2023. The company recorded sales of 369.2 billion won and operating profit of 34.3 billion won on a consolidated basis, marking a 55.1% increase in sales and a remarkable 137.4% increase in operating profit compared to the same period last year.

This positive performance has also contributed to the cumulative sales for the first half of this year, reaching 775.8 billion won, and an operating profit of 67.3 billion won. These figures show a substantial increase of 65% in sales and an impressive 98.2% increase in operating profit compared to the same period in the previous year.

POSCO DX attributes this growth to the expanding business opportunities in the fields of factory automation, smart factories, and industrial robots, particularly for POSCO group companies involved in the production of environmentally friendly materials, including secondary batteries.

POSCO Holdings, the holding company of POSCO, has recently announced its plan to expand investment in the secondary battery material business. At the ‘2nd POSCO Group Secondary Battery Material Business Value Day’ held on the 11th, the company presented its vision and goals for the growth of the secondary battery material business. Among these goals is a target to generate sales of 62 trillion won by 2030, including significant contributions from lithium, nickel, cathode materials, and anode materials. This revised target represents a 51% increase compared to the previously proposed sales target for eco-friendly materials in 2030.

If group companies proceed with the expansion of their secondary battery material production plants, POSCO DX, which specializes in factory automation facilities, stands to benefit. As a smart factory, POSCO DX utilizes automation facilities, control systems, integrated production control systems, warehouse automation, and industrial robots in the production of secondary battery materials such as lithium, nickel, cathode, and anode materials, all in line with the POSCO Group’s promotion of environmentally friendly materials.

An official from POSCO DX stated, “We are actively promoting the expansion of our robot automation solutions business for POSCO group companies, offering consulting, design, system construction, and operation services to effectively apply robots to high-risk and high-density industrial sites. Additionally, we are driving new orders in smart logistics and intensifying our sales activities.” The company aims to continue its growth and contribute to the overall success of the POSCO Group’s efforts in the secondary battery material business.
