JAKARTA (Antara) - Director of the Elsa Hufaidah Center Vaccination house, Elsa, stated that mild post-immunization reactions, such as swelling at the injection site and mild fever, are common occurrences following vaccination in children. She made these remarks in Jakarta on Saturday, september 20, 2025.
“We always inform that all vaccines do have a risk. Though, the risk is not comparable to the consequences of contracting the disease itself,” Elsa explained.
She emphasized that symptoms like mild fever and localized swelling are generally manageable at home.
For children experiencing a mild fever post-immunization, Elsa recommends parents apply warm compresses to the forehead, armpit folds, or chest. “If the body temperature exceeds 38 degrees Celsius, a fever-reducing medication can be administered. However, if the temperature remains below that threshold, it’s usually not necessary,” she added.
Understanding Post-Immunization Reactions
Vaccines work by stimulating the body’s immune system to produce antibodies, which protect against future infection. This process can sometimes cause temporary side effects, often referred to as post-immunization reactions. These reactions are generally mild and short-lived.
Common Symptoms
