COLUMBUS,Ohio (AP) — Luis Everardo Canchola Rodríguez,a chemical engineering student,secured first place in the Junior category at the Xtreme PowerLifting coalition (XPC) World Powerlifting Championship,part of the Arnold Classic 2025. The competition took place March 2 at the Greater ⁢Columbus Convention Centre.

Triumph⁤ in Ohio

Canchola rodríguez competed in the –90 kg weight division, showcasing his strength against international competitors. His performance earned him his first international podium finish.

The athlete’s winning performance included⁢ a 280 kg squat, a 150 kg bench press, and a 240 kg deadlift,⁤ culminating in⁢ a total of 670 kg.

“I felt very good⁣ too get the first place; it is indeed a rewarding sensation,” Canchola Rodríguez said. He also expressed gratitude for the support he received from his faculty, the General Directorate of University sports, and his coach.

Adrian Parra Larios, Canchola rodríguez’s coach, noted the planning and preparation that went into the victory. “We visualized⁢ this championship around 15 months before,” Larios said. “There‍ was a high level of⁣ competition. However, Canchola took out the Puma claw, marked the numbers we had projected, and was able ‍to⁢ keep them on an international platform.”

Looking Ahead

Canchola Rodríguez aims to ⁣compete in the Tested World Championships of the international Powerlifting league, scheduled for Nov. 18-21 in Wolverhampton,United Kingdom. He hopes to break three world records in his category at that event.
