The President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, had predicted that Israel would attack Rafah within a few days.

He expressed concern that even a small clash in Rafah, the last refuge for 1.4 million Palestinians, would lead to massive casualties.

He then called for US intervention.

“The only country that is responsible and can convince Israel that this attack is unacceptable is the United States.”

The White House said Israel had agreed to share America’s views and concerns before attacking Rafah, and Israel assured it would not attack Rafah despite American opposition.

“We have spoken to them several times and will continue to do so. They assured us they would not enter Rafah.”

He also said that President Biden spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu again today and repeated his request to be careful about Operation Rafa.

Apart from this, anti-war protests by American college students against Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have not stopped.

Some universities mobilized public power and forcibly disbanded on the grounds that “demonstrators promote anti-Semitism.”

In addition, the New York Times reported that more than 700 people across the United States, including 108 Columbia University students, were arrested for pro-Palestinian protests.

As opposition to the Biden administration’s pro-Israel policy in the US intensifies, and there are conflicting views within the ruling party, the White House reiterates its current position of respecting peaceful protests but criticizing the words and actions of anti- Semitic.
