Manchester City’s Financial Breaches: Pep Guardiola Responds to Rival Teams

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that rival teams in the English Premier League would like to see Manchester City punished for breaking the top flight’s financial rules.

Manchester City were previously accused by the Premier League of more than 115 financial breaches over a nine-year period (between 2009-10 and 2017-18). The matter was referred to an independent committee, which has been under investigation since February 2023.

The Premier League has set a date for the start of the hearing of the case, which will commence on September 16.

La Liga President Javier Tebas Weighs In

Javier Tebas, president of Spain’s La Liga, expressed his thoughts on Manchester City’s situation, stating, “I have spoken to many clubs in the Premier League and most of them understand that Man City should be punished.”

Pep Guardiola’s Response

Pep Guardiola recently spoke about Tebas’ interview, saying, “For the first time, I agree with Tebas.” He acknowledged that rival teams in the Premier League want Manchester City to be punished, but emphasized the importance of waiting for the independent committee’s decision.

“Justice exists in modern democracies. There is nothing more complicated than that,” Guardiola said. “We believe we did nothing wrong.”

Guardiola also drew parallels with a similar situation involving UEFA, highlighting the need for a fair and impartial investigation.
