President Boric’s agenda in APEC

The president traveled to the United States to participate in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, raising his political challenges.

This Thursday, the president Gabriel Boric addressed a series of mainly political topics during his speech broadcast on the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum 2023 (APEC) which is taking place in San Francisco, United States.

The president arrived last Wednesday in the North American country to hold various meetings related to the summit and the business world, in addition to attending the CEO Summit where he delivered his statements.

Among the highlights, Boric referred to the constituent process, despite the fact that different authorities of his Government had already referred to this issue. However, he took the opportunity to settle the issue as closed.

“We have had some uncertainty for some years, for example, in our constitutional process, but I can assure you that this year, after the plebiscite, whatever result the people choose, that process will come to an end, because we know that, To have long-term development, we need certainties,” he declared in his speech.

His visit is accompanied by the chancellor Alberto van Klaveren; the Minister of Transport, Juan Carlos Muñoz; the Minister of Sciences, Aisén Etcheverry and the Undersecretary of International Economic Relations, Claudia Sanhueza.

This is because the focus of the summit is on sustainability, inclusion, resilience and innovation, which led to the careful selection of its companions.

During the morning, he also met with prominent Chileans who reside in the city and participated in the forum’s opening ceremony.

Finally, after delivering his words at the CEO Summit, he will meet with the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeauin conjunction with companies in the program Copec Wind Venturesculminating in a summit plenary.

Double taxation agreement with the United States

Finally, the president Boric announced the agreement that avoids double taxation with the United States, approved today in the Senate.

“For almost 10 years we were discussing with the United States Congress about an agreement that would allow us not to have a double taxation system and today we finalized this process,” he said.

This initiative had been approved by the Chilean Parliament in 2015, after being modified and ratified by the United States last June, but had to return to Congress. It also establishes measures to prevent evasion of income and wealth taxes.
