On the 26th, the police launched an additional mandatory investigation into Lim Hyun-taek, the next president-elect of the Korean Medical Association (KMA). The Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it conducted an additional search and seizure of President-elect Lim starting at 10am this day. President-elect Lim is accused of interfering with the work of government by encouraging collective action by medical trainees.

A police official explained why, saying: “It has been confirmed that the mobile phone secured during the first search and seizure was used in the past by President-elect Lim” and “a further mandatory investigation has been conducted to the cell phone currently in use is safe.” Previously, on the first of last month, police executed the first search and seizure warrant on five former and current executives of the Korean Medical Association, including president-elect Lim.

The police are also protecting data by seizing and searching the office of the Korean Association of Pediatrics in Mapo-gu, Seoul, used by President-elect Lim when he was president in the past, and President-elect Lim’s actual residence in Asan, Province of South Chungcheong.

The investigation into President-elect Lim follows accusations from the Ministry of Health and Welfare by current and former leaders of the Korean Medical Association. Police are investigating President-elect Lim, Kim Taek-woo, chairman of the Korean Medical Association Emergency Committee, Joo Soo-ho, chairman of the Media and Public Relations Emergency Committee, Park Myeong-ha, chairman of the organizational strengthening committee of the emergency committee and Noh Hwan-gyu, former president of the Korean Medical Association, on charges of violating the order to begin work under the Medical Services Law and aiding and abetting obstruction of business.
