Seoul, South Korea – Tuesday, February 10, 2026 – South Korean President Lee Jae-myung is scheduled to chair a cabinet meeting today, continuing a period of significant policy initiatives and engagement with both domestic and international partners.

The meeting comes as President Lee’s administration continues to implement a comprehensive law governing artificial intelligence, formally enacted on January 25, 2026, according to a post on the Philippine News Agency’s Facebook page. The initiative, reportedly approved by the Cabinet, expands the scope of the former Presidential Committee on AI.

President Lee has demonstrated a willingness to engage with political opponents, a practice highlighted by a bipartisan luncheon held at his official residence in Hannam-dong, central Seoul, on June 22, 2025. This marked the first time since his inauguration that he invited opposition leaders to the presidential compound. The meeting, which lasted one hour and 45 minutes, involved leadership from both the Democratic Party and the People Power Party. The presidential office described the event as a “meaningful first step toward frank and regular communication between the president and party leaders,” with all parties agreeing to hold such meetings more frequently.

During the luncheon, pleasantries were exchanged, and newly elected PPP floor leader Song Eon-seog congratulated President Lee on his inauguration. President Lee reciprocated, congratulating Song on his new position and expressing hope for constructive cooperation. He emphasized the importance of unity on foreign policy, referencing his recent participation in the Group of 7 summit.

“I believe it was an opportunity to show that the turbulence and crises in Korea are stabilizing,” President Lee reportedly said. “I hope we can coordinate our positions on foreign matters.” Discussions also touched upon domestic issues, including a supplementary budget, with President Lee acknowledging that “policy disagreements are natural.”

Prior to the bipartisan luncheon, President Lee attended the G7 summit in Canada, where a planned meeting with then-U.S. President Trump did not materialize. A press briefing previewing President Lee’s subsequent White House visit with President Trump, held on August 20, 2025, suggested the agenda would include a Cabinet meeting and a working lunch, according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

President Lee’s administration has also signaled a focus on economic fairness. In June 2025, he directed the Fair Trade Commission to increase its personnel shortly after his inauguration, drawing attention to the evolving role of the commission, according to a report from the Chosun Biz.

These actions suggest a proactive approach to governance, characterized by a commitment to both domestic collaboration and international engagement. The cabinet meeting today will likely provide further insight into the administration’s priorities as it navigates a complex geopolitical landscape and seeks to address key economic and social challenges.
