[세계타임즈 박준수 기자]President Moon Jae-in attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the LG BCM factory, a Gumi-type job factory, held at the Gumi Convention Center in Gyeongsangbuk-do, and encouraged employees and local labor, management and public officials who contributed to the Gumi-type jobs.

President Moon expects that the LG BCM plant, which will be built in the high-tech valley of the Gumi Family Industrial Complex by investing 475.4 billion won by September 2024, will produce the nation’s largest cathode material with an annual capacity of 60,000 tons, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of the domestic battery industry. did.

At the event, President Moon said that 60,000 tons of cathode material would be enough to produce 500,000 electric vehicles, which would greatly reduce dependence on cathode materials abroad, and that he would make Gumi-type jobs an opportunity to strengthen the overall battery industry ecosystem.

President Moon emphasized that South Korea will also take a step forward in the battery industry, which is one of the core of global supply chain competition along with Gumi-type jobs.

Korea leads the world battery industry with the best technology, but lacks competitiveness in the basic ecosystem such as materials and parts, and emphasized that in order to gain a clear advantage in the battery supply chain competition, it is necessary to increase the independence of core materials and parts.

President Moon said, “Gyeongbuk, where excellent companies in battery-related fields gather, will emerge as the center of the battery industry ecosystem, and Korea will lead the global battery supply chain.”

He emphasized that the Gumi industrial complex and the Korean battery industry will be ready for a new breakthrough.
A win-win local job is a project in which labor, management, the private sector, and the government agree on employment, investment, and welfare, etc. to create local investment and jobs. It is the 6th project in Gumi, following Gwangju, Miryang, Hoengseong, Gunsan, and Busan.

President Moon expressed great anticipation that the foundation for the rapid development of the local economy was laid through the start of the Gumi-type job factory.

President Moon said that the vigorous resurgence of Gumi industrial complexes will become more evident with Gumi-type jobs, and that if the labor, management, and civil governments yield little by little and work together, they have shown that they can raise competitiveness in new industries through domestic investment without having to go abroad.

He added that this investment will create more than 8,200 jobs, and that he will add strength by operating industry-university programs with local educational institutions including Meister High School and Geumoh University of Technology.

President Moon promised that the government would provide full support together with local governments, such as providing subsidies to promote local investment for free rental of industrial complex sites for 50 years.

He added that the Gumi industrial complex will become a repository of jobs and create opportunities for shared growth for local businesses, adding that the Gumi-type jobs will be a sure success story to induce more corporate investment.
