This is the first time President Yoon is holding a debate on people’s livelihoods, which started earlier this year, in the Honam region.
President Yoon said, “The most important task in expanding the population area of Jeollanam-do and forming a metropolitan economic zone is to expand transportation infrastructure,” and added, “We will immediately begin research to prepare a detailed plan for this ‘year (for the construction of a highway).”
Furthermore, he said, “In addition, after the Gwangju-Gangjin Expressway currently under construction, we will accelerate the construction of the Gangjin-Wando Expressway, which is currently undergoing a preliminary feasibility study.”
President Yoon said: “We will connect the region more quickly by connecting the 180km section from Iksan in the Honam hinterland to Yeosu on the south coast with a high-speed rail network.”
He also said: “There are many complaints that the speed of the Jeolla Line high-speed rail line is so slow that it cannot operate properly. First of all, we will do our best to improve the speed by investing more than 1 trillion won in improving the Jeolla Line high-speed rail line.”
President Yoon presented a project and support plan for the development of the Jeonnam region.

Furthermore, support measures for the agricultural, livestock and fishing sectors were also presented. It was announced that a high-tech agricultural and livestock industry convergence district based on artificial intelligence (artificial intelligence) will be established in Muan and Hampyeong, and a seafood export complex will be established in Mokpo and will be expanded a processing and distribution center for fish products.
