(Daegu = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Deok-gi = On the 28th, Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo targeted People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon, who is in conflict with the President’s Office over the recommendation of a special inspector to inspect the president’s relatives, saying, “Like the current party leadership, the president’s authority is “Pushing ahead with policies in a way that tramples and forces submission is reckless permissive politics,” he said.

Mayor Hong said in his Facebook post that day, “When the ruling party leadership promotes policies, they collect opinions within the party, coordinate with the President’s Office privately, and announce them to the public.”

He also said, “That is nothing more than a childish play with fire, putting the entire ruling party in jeopardy in order to pursue politics that will only stand out for oneself. He is playing a game of presidential power for himself that is not going to work.”

Mayor Hong said, “It was like that on the eve of (former President Park Geun-hye’s) impeachment,” and claimed, “The fight between the President and the party leadership led to the collapse of the political situation.”

He went on to say, “This is an emergency time when we must think of the party more than ourselves and the country more than the party,” and urged, “Please be self-respecting and work together to create a normal ruling party and a normal country.”
