Bengaluru: The bus designated for the Prime Minister and the Ministers to travel to Kerala for the New Kerala audience has departed from the office of the private company responsible for manufacturing the bus body in Lalbagh, Bengaluru, at approximately 6:30 pm today. The bus is en route to Kasaragod, where the Navakerala Sadas will commence tomorrow morning.

The bus, which has been specifically designed to accommodate the Prime Minister and each minister, boasts a bio-toilet, a refrigerator, and a special area near the driver complete with a spotlight for the Prime Minister to address the public. With an allocation of one crore five lakh rupees for its procurement, the bus will be handed over to the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) following the completion of the journey. It is anticipated that the Navkerala Sadas bus will serve as a potential revenue source, akin to the revenue generated from renting double-decker buses.

Manufactured by SM Kannappa Automobiles Pvt Ltd in Bengaluru, the bus features a striking black color design accented with golden stripes, with the phrase “Kerala is God’s own country” emblazoned outside the bus in English. Utilizing a Benz chassis, the 25-passenger bus will be utilized by the Chief Minister and the ministers to visit various districts as part of the New Kerala delegation. However, the launch of the luxury bus, which comes at a cost of Rs 1.5 lakh, has been met with criticism from the opposition, labeling it as an unnecessary extravagance. Nonetheless, Transport Minister Antony Raju has defended the decision, arguing that utilizing special buses instead of individual vehicles will result in cost savings.
