The Prime Minister plans a visit to Washington, DC in January

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will visit Washington, DC for the first time in January next year, and has made arrangements to meet President Biden. We are considering about 7 to 9 days. Based on the “National Security Strategy,” a long-term guide for foreign and security policy that will be revised in December this year, it intends to communicate specific measures to strengthen defense capabilities and a policy to increase costs, leading to a deepening of the Japan-US alliance. He plans to go to an international conference to be held in Switzerland in mid-January next year. In anticipation of the G7 Hiroshima Summit in May, he is also coordinating visits to G7 countries in Europe.

Multiple government officials announced on the 24th. This will be the prime minister’s first visit to Washington since he took office last October.
