Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton have shared a new photograph of their youngest son, Prince Louis, to mark his eighth birthday, continuing a tradition of personal updates from the Wales family on significant milestones.
The image, released on April 23, 2026, shows Prince Louis smiling while wearing a blue zip-up jumper with his arms crossed, standing aboard a boat during a family holiday in Cornwall. The photograph was taken by royal photographer Matt Porteous, who has previously documented moments from Prince Louis’s christening and captured images of Prince George on his third and fifth birthdays, as well as the Wales family’s 2022 Christmas card.
Alongside the photograph, the Prince and Princess of Wales published a short video filmed earlier in the month, depicting Prince Louis enjoying various activities during their seaside break. The footage captures him jumping into the water in a wetsuit, digging in the sand with a spade, playing cricket and running along the beach. The video was posted on the couple’s official social media channels with the message: “Thank you for all the birthday wishes for Prince Louis. 8 is great!”
The image and video were also shared directly by Prince William and Princess Kate on their royal social media accounts, accompanied by the caption: “Happy birthday, Louis! 8 today!” followed by a red balloon emoji. This marks the eighth birthday of Prince Louis Arthur Charles, who was born at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington on April 23, 2018.
Prince Louis is the third child of the Prince and Princess of Wales, following his older siblings Prince George, aged 12, and Princess Charlotte, aged 10. He remains fourth in the line of succession to the British throne. While he does not frequently accompany his parents on official engagements, he is known to appear at key national events such as the annual Trooping the Colour Parade and Easter Sunday services.
Known for his cheeky antics, the prince rarely accompanies his parents on royal engagements, but is often seen at significant events including the annual Trooping the Colour Parade and Easter Sunday.
