A private jet parked at an airport in Germany was covered in orange spray. It was caused by environmental activists who broke into the airport.

According to local German media such as ZDF on the 6th (local time), the German climate environment group ‘Last Generation’ (Letzte Generation) invaded the airport in Sylt, North Friesland, in the northern state of Schleswig-Holstein, and held a protest.

They cut through the iron fence placed around the airfield with a cutter prepared in advance and entered. Five operators wearing orange vests approached the jet parked on the runway and sprayed it. Most of the jet’s wings and body, as well as its front windows, were stained orange.

Activists sat on the wing and unfurled a banner that read, “Your luxury = our drought.” They argued that they wanted to call attention to the responsibility of the climate disaster by pointing to the rich. Although carbon emissions are identified as the main culprits of environmental pollution and climate change, polishes increase carbon emissions by using private jets and yachts without delay.

The last generation also filmed the protest situation with a camera and posted it on Twitter. The group wrote to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, “Who are you running politics for?” “Admit that there is a minority of (privileged) people now living at the expense of all of us,” he said.

The group urged measures to reduce carbon emissions from such private jets. They said, “The owner will not voluntarily abandon his jet,” and “if you (Prime Minister Scholz) do not solve this problem, where do we find justice?”

In the meantime, the authorities believe that the campaigners can be charged with trespassing and causing damage to property, and they are continuing their investigation. The exact extent of the damage is still being determined. The local police said they would take action against the protesters after consulting the encroachment, property damage, road construction and transport departments.
