MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — After years of speculation, Google is officially launching its futuristic video conferencing technology, formerly known as Project Starline, under the new name Google Beam. CEO Sundar Pichai confirmed that the first commercial devices will be produced in collaboration with HP, with a launch expected later this year.
Google Beam aims to revolutionize video conferencing by creating a three-dimensional, life-size portrayal of the person on the other end of the call, moving beyond the limitations of traditional flat screens. The technology promises a more immersive and realistic communication experience.
How Google Beam Works
The system employs high-resolution cameras and sensors to capture a real-time image of the user. this data is then processed and displayed using specialized displays and optical systems to generate a lifelike 3D image. The effect is designed to make it appear as though the participants are in the same room.
The pricing of the HP-manufactured Google Beam devices remains a key point of interest for potential adopters.
Market Impact and Availability
Previously, Project Starline was limited to select Google offices due to the complexity and cost of the technology. A successful market launch could significantly alter the landscape of video conferencing, provided the systems are priced within reach for businesses.
Google plans to release further details regarding the availability and technical specifications of the HP devices in the coming months.
