Prosecutorial Overreach? Hong Joon-pyo Slams ‘Disastrous’ Moon Family Investigation
Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo Criticizes Prosecution’s Investigation into Former President Moon Jae-in’s Family
Mayor Hong Joon-pyo has strongly criticized the prosecution’s targeted investigation into former President Moon Jae-in’s family, calling for an investigation befitting a former president.
During an appearance on CBS Radio’s “Park Jae-hong’s Bout” on the 16th, Mayor Hong expressed his concerns about the investigation, stating, “There is a principle of proportionality in the law, so how can you investigate a former president for giving money to his daughter?”
He further emphasized the need for a more plausible investigation, citing the importance of maintaining the principle of proportionality. Mayor Hong also highlighted other issues that he believes should be investigated, such as the disposal of nuclear power plants and the potential transmission of state secrets when a USB stick was handed over to Kim Jong-un at Panmunjom.
Mayor Hong has repeatedly criticized the investigation, calling it “squalid” – a term used in Gyeongsang dialect to describe something as shameful and petty. He believes that the investigation should be conducted in a more dignified manner, befitting a former president.
Regarding First Lady Kim Kun-hee, who has been appearing in public every day, Mayor Hong stressed that it is not the time for her to come out, as she is surrounded by gossip. He advised her to be patient and avoid engaging in public activities, as it may make things more difficult for her.
Mayor Hong also noted that regardless of what Ms. Kim does now, the public views her negatively, and it would be best for her to reflect on herself a little.
