According to Prusa Research, all new machine orders will automatically include these second-generation updates at no extra charge, while customers with orders currently in progress will receive the upgraded versions without any price increase.

Hardware Updates Across the Prusa Lineup

The most widely requested addition across all three updated machines is a built-in nozzle wiper, a feature previously implemented through various community modifications that required manual g-code adjustments in slicer software. According to Prusa Research, the large-format XL receives several major revisions since its 2023 release, including the 360-degree cooling system originally introduced on the MK4S and the INDX Tool Offset Sensor for permanent, faster toolhead alignment. The XL also adopts GT1.5 belts to enhance surface area quality, ships with high-flow nozzles standard, and features an optional enclosure upgrade with chamber heating and improved seals.

The Core One+ and the Core One L also incorporate the new GT1.5 belts and integrated nozzle wipers. According to Prusa Research, the Core One+ specifically adds improved heatbed mounting and a snap-on top panel similar to the design used on the larger Core One L. Additionally, an optional HT Hotend for the Core One series will launch in September, capable of reaching 400 degrees Celsius to support specialized engineering filaments such as PEKK-CF and PPS-CF at a pre-order price of $199.99.

Software Ecosystem and Component Availability

Beyond hardware modifications, Prusa Research is rolling out complementary updates to its firmware and slicing software. Upgrade kits and individual components will become available on the company webstore by September, allowing existing owners to purchase parts à la carte. Although the bedslinging MK4S was excluded from this second-generation upgrade cycle, company representatives emphasized that support for older hardware remains active. Mikolau Zuza, Head of Content at Prusa Research, explained the philosophy behind their hardware lifecycle in a company blog post: If there’s one thing worth knowing about how we develop our printers, it’s this: we don’t expect you to replace a working machine just because we’ve come up with something new. Most tech becomes obsolete over time. Our printers keep getting better, Zuza stated.
