PTI’s Internal Polls Rejected: Election Commission Delivers Blow to Party’s Two-Tier System
PTI’s Organizational Structure at Risk if Inter-Party Elections Not Recognized
The Election Commission has warned that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party’s organizational structure will cease to exist if its inter-party elections are not recognized. This warning came during a hearing of the PTI inter-party election case, which was presided over by a 3-member commission headed by Sindh Member Nisar Durrani.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar appeared before the commission and was asked by Member Balochistan if the PTI elections were being held in Chamkani. Barrister Gohar replied that the elections were also being held in Islamabad.
The commission asked the Election Commission officials about the future of the party if the inter-party elections were not recognized. The Director General of Political Finance replied that the party would have no organizational structure. The bench directed the authorities to assist on this point.
Barrister Gohar requested time to submit the necessary documents, asking for a week to 10 days. The commission also heard from the petitioner Naveed Anjum, who appeared against the rejection of his nomination papers for the PTI Chairman election.
Anjum stated that he wanted to fight the PTI inter-party election and had submitted papers against the chairman, which were rejected. His appeal was also rejected, leading him to appear before the Electoral Commission. The Members of the Electoral Commission advised him to submit his application, which would be heard at the next hearing.
The Election Commission has given PTI time to submit the necessary documents, adjourning the hearing till October 2.
