Navalny’s wife, Yulia Navalnaya, who attended the plenary session of the European Parliament, criticized Russian President Putin in crude terms.

At the same time, he urged that innovative methods, rather than existing resolutions or sanctions, are needed to defeat Putin.

“You can’t beat Putin if you think he’s a man of morals and principles. You’re not dealing with a politician, you’re dealing with a bloody monster.”

Russian correctional authorities announced on the 16th that Navalny had died suddenly after going for a walk, but did not release the body to the bereaved family because they were investigating the cause of death.

The bereaved family and close associates criticized the authorities for taking their time to cover up the cause of Navalny’s death.

After publicly appealing and filing a lawsuit for the return of Navalny’s body, Navalny’s mother was able to receive the body and hold a funeral on March 1, two weeks after his death.

Navalnaya said she did not know if the funeral would be held peacefully or if mourners would be arrested by the police.

“They killed Navalny and later abused his body. The open murder once again showed everyone that Putin is a man who can do anything and there is no negotiation with him.”

A spokesman for Navalny said he had planned a public memorial event this weekend, but had been turned down by all the facilities that would have held it.

Navalny’s supporters proposed to hold a protest on the 17th of next month, the day of the presidential election, but the Kremlin warned that they would be punished for their illegal actions.
