Passenger Seating and Cabin Response

Flight attendants initially attempted to move the body to the executive class section using a wheelchair, but the narrow aisle and the passenger’s size prevented the transfer. Crew members then observed two empty seats in the row occupied by Australian passengers Mitchell Ring and Jennifer Colin, who were traveling to Italy for a vacation. Colin was offered an empty seat in a rear row, but Ring remained in the same row alongside the body, which was covered only with a blanket for the final four hours of the flight.

Upon arrival in Doha, the crew instructed passengers to remain in their seats while medical teams boarded to remove the body. Ring criticized the airline’s handling of the post-flight protocol, stating that passengers should not have been required to wait in close proximity to the removal process.

Airline and Agency Responses

Qatar Airways issued a public statement expressing condolences to the family of the deceased passenger and offering apologies to the affected travelers.

Estamos en proceso de contactar a los pasajeros afectados de acuerdo con nuestras políticas y procedimientos.

Qatar Airways spokesperson

Qantas, through which the Australian couple booked their tickets, clarified that managing in-flight medical emergencies falls under the operational responsibility of the operating carrier rather than the ticketing airline.

La gestión de incidentes a bordo es responsabilidad de la aerolínea operadora, en este caso Qatar Airways.

According to reporting by TMZ cited in international coverage, guidelines from the International Air Transport Association stipulate that a deceased passenger should be placed in an area with minimal nearby seating and covered appropriately, raising questions among passengers about whether standard procedures were adequately followed during the journey.
