Qatar sets fee caps for recruiting domestic workers

Doha: Qatar sets fee cap for domestic workers Qatar has set a fee cap for the recruitment of domestic workers to Qatar from countries including India. The decision was taken jointly by the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The fee for recruitment of workers from India is 14,000 Rials (approximately Rs. 2,84,200).

The fee is 16,000 riyals for recruitment from Sri Lanka, 15,000 riyals for recruitment from the Philippines, 14,000 riyals for recruitment from Bangladesh and 17,000 riyals for recruitment from Indonesia.

The fee for recruitment from Kenya and Ethiopia is 9,000 riyals. Qatar has taken such a step in the wake of concerns that agencies are charging exorbitant rates for the recruitment of domestic workers. The notification will come into effect from the date of publication in the Official Gazette.
