According to TechCrunch on the 1st (local time), Ryu appeared on the Strictly VC LA stage and explained the very small AI agent device “R1”, which was first unveiled at CES2024 last month.
He said of R1: “Not only can you use apps and perform complex tasks remotely, but you can also answer questions and continue conversations like ChatGPT” and expressed these parts as “intention” and “action”. “In fact, we had this vision 10 years ago, but the technology wasn’t ready,” he said, adding: “This is the first time in history that such a device has actually been made,” explaining the importance of the R1 launch.
When asked what differentiates R1 from other AI tools, Ryu recalled a time in the past when he attempted to work on a language model using super prompts, but the results were not good. As a result, he made R1 perform actions with a Transformer-based system that leverages the capabilities of a large-scale language model (LLM) that understands language and intentions.
This is a method of learning data from the 800 most frequently used apps in LLM and asking it to review clips frame by frame. Then, once the AI is smart enough to extract all the elements, it basically allows you to build automation logic.
The result was positive. The R1 managed to sell 10,000 units within a day of its release, exceeding the original sales target (500 units) by a full 20 times. “These sales results are very significant, especially for first-generation startups,” Ryu said. “In reality, startups are a game of survival and it is best to spend your time focusing on your work.”
Meanwhile, R1 is an AI agent device equipped with a 2.88-inch touch screen running Rabbit OS and attracted attention with its retro design and pocket size when it was released.
