Bulgarian MP Kalin Stoyanov has sharply criticized President Rumen Radev, accusing him of fabricating narratives to sow discord and distract from alleged wrongdoings during his own time in office and that of his political allies. The statements come amidst a debate surrounding amendments to the State Property Act and Bulgaria’s recent adoption of the Euro.
radev’s Claims on State Property Dismissed as “Populist Lies”
Stoyanov directly refuted Radev’s claims that the government is “selling the state” through the proposed amendments to the State Property Act. He clarified that the changes aim to transfer state property to municipalities, not to sell it off.”This is a measure that will end the destruction of many properties across the country,” Stoyanov stated, emphasizing the potential benefits for local communities. He accused Radev of intentionally misrepresenting the situation to incite fear and uncertainty. “A populist lie! Radev can be assured that we, as a new beginning, as a responsible political force, will not allow state property to be sold to anyone.”
Stoyanov further argued that Radev’s concerns about an “emptied” state treasury following Eurozone entry are unfounded and serve as a pretext for spreading misinformation.
Botash contract: Stoyanov Points to a “Billion-Lev Robbery” Under Radev’s Watch
The MP launched a scathing attack on Radev’s past actions, specifically highlighting a contract signed with Botash during Radev’s presidency. Stoyanov alleges this deal represents a far greater financial loss to Bulgaria than any current proposed policy.
“The largest robbery of the state was carried out precisely during the official governments appointed by Radev, and also in the management of his political derivatives by the PP-DB,” Stoyanov asserted. He detailed the Botash contract, claiming Bulgaria is losing BGN 1,050,000 daily – totaling over BGN 5 billion over the 13-year duration of the agreement. He emphasized the contract’s lack of a termination clause and it’s rapid signing.
“This, Mr. Radev, is the biggest robbery after 1990! The robbery from which Bulgarian citizens are impoverished daily at the expense of few who have ‘gone’, as you like to say, and whose names we can only guess,” Stoyanov declared.
A Pattern of “Destruction and Thefts”
Stoyanov concluded with a damning assessment of Radev’s legacy, characterizing his time in office as marked by “timelessness, destruction and thefts of a particularly large size.” He positioned the current government as a responsible option committed to protecting state assets and ensuring clarity.
The MP’s strong statements signal a deepening rift between GERB and President Radev, with both sides trading accusations and attempting to define the narrative surrounding Bulgaria’s economic and political future.
