The Rafael Nadal file

Melbourne: 22-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal, the legendary Spanish tennis player, has pulled out of the Australian Open. He suffered a new injury during the Brisbane International quarterfinals and explained that he will not play the Australian Open this time. The withdrawal was made clear through a note posted on social media.

The player called a medical break after sustaining an injury during the match in Brisbane. A muscle strain caused the game to be stopped. Then play again. But Nadal was also defeated in a marathon contest that lasted almost three and a half hours. After this, he said he will start training next week and play the Australian Open. Although not 100 percent sure, the hope was that it would be possible to play.

But now he has confirmed that he is resigning. The decision was made after examining scan reports of the injury. The Australian Open starts on January 14. Nadal has been sidelined for the past year due to injury.
