New York State Senator Jessica Ramos (D, Queens District 13) has officially announced her candidacy for New York City mayor in the upcoming election. “I am running for mayor to create a city where working families can live well,” Ramos stated. “I will make New York City a city that provides working families with opportunities to achieve their dreams. The current administration cannot do that.”
Ramos, who was first elected to the New York State Senate in 2018, represents a district that includes Jackson Heights, Corona, East Elmhurst, and parts of Queens. Notably, she is the only woman and Latina among the Democratic candidates who have declared their candidacy for mayor.
With Ramos’ announcement, the number of politicians who have officially declared their candidacy for the New York City mayoral election has increased to four. The list of candidates includes State Senator Jessica Ramos, New York City Comptroller Brad Lander, former New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer, and New York State Senator Jelly Mailley. The Democratic primary for the New York City mayoral election is scheduled for June 24 next year.
