Rapper Served Sentence at Same Federal Facility as Maduro

Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, born Daniel Hernandez, was released from federal custody on April 3, 2026. The Brooklyn native was released from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, after serving a three-month sentence.

Video shared to the artist’s Instagram account showed him exiting the facility wearing a navy blue-and-white canvas slip-on shoe pairing and a white sweatsuit. He was met outside the facility by a small group of friends.

The Maduro Connection

Following his release, 6ix9ine displayed a SpongeBob SquarePants figurine that he has nicknamed Sponge9ine. The rapper claimed the toy is a One of One item because it was signed by Nicolás Maduro.

According to 6ix9ine, the signature on the toy reads, Maduro, 2nd of April. Venezuela forever.

The autograph comes from the former leader of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, who has reportedly been housed at the same federal facility as 6ix9ine. Maduro is facing serious charges, including drug trafficking and narco-terrorism.

Legal Background and Incarceration

The three-month period of incarceration resulted from a 2025 violation of the terms of 6ix9ine’s supervised release. Authorities remanded him into custody earlier in 2026 after he failed a drug test that returned positive results for MDMA and cocaine.

This most recent stint in jail marked the second time in a period of just over one year that 6ix9ine was returned to custody for breaching the conditions of his supervised release.
