RAYE nearly avoided working with Mark Ronson as of his close association with Amy Winehouse. The British singer, who has drawn comparisons to Winehouse, is releasing two collaborations with Ronson.
The first track, “Suzanne,” is scheduled for release Friday. RAYE told People at Governors ball in New York City that she was initially apprehensive about collaborating with Ronson, who produced Winehouse’s Back to Black album with Salaam Remi in 2006.
RAYE emphasized that she could never replace or imitate Winehouse, whom she deeply admires. she acknowledged the challenge of creating freely with Ronson, but ultimately decided to set aside her concerns.
A second collaboration, “Grandma Calls the Boy Bad News,” will appear on the F1 soundtrack later in june.
RAYE expressed her pride and joy in the music they created together. She is currently working on her next album, a follow-up to her 2023 LP, My 21st Century Blues, but is struggling to find a title.
“We’ve made music together that I’m so proud of, and I love,” she said. “I play it, and it makes me happy and joyful, so I’m proud.”
