Drew Rasmussen, Tampa Bay’s right-handed pitcher, will defend his scoreless innings streak Tuesday as the Rays begin a three-game home series against the Texas Rangers. Rasmussen (4-4, 2.33 ERA) has not allowed a run in 18 innings,a streak he extended last Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins.
Texas will counter with right-hander Tyler Mahle (5-2, 1.64 ERA), who is also coming off a six-inning scoreless outing.Mahle hopes to keep the Rays’ offense at bay as the Rangers start a nine-game road trip.
Rasmussen, 29, previously faced the Rangers on April 6, allowing one run on three hits in a no-decision. In two career appearances against Texas, he is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA.
Mahle has one career start against Tampa Bay, during which he pitched five scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and striking out five on April 4.
