Toprak Razgatliouglu has been given a Long Lap penalty for the Spanish MotoGP Grand Prix at Jerez following an incident in the Tissot Sprint race.
The FIM MotoGP Stewards determined that Razgatliouglu caused a crash during the Sprint by making contact with Aprilia wildcard rider Lorenzo Savadori, resulting in both riders going down. The penalty was issued under Penalty Protocol Type MGP-CC3 for causing a crash or causing a crash while overtaking.
This marks Razgatliouglu’s first offence of the 2026 MotoGP season since joining Prima Pramac Yamaha. As a first offence, the standard penalty applied is a Long Lap, which requires the rider to complete an additional loop during the Grand Prix race.
Razgatliouglu will start Sunday’s Grand Prix from 19th on the grid. He joins other riders penalised for incidents during the Sprint, including Joan Mir (Honda HRC Castrol), who received a double Long Lap penalty, and Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing), who was given a three-place grid penalty.
Speaking after the incident, Razgatliouglu said: “I’m very sorry. When the rain started, I saw an opportunity as the pace dropped, so I tried to push harder. At Turn 5 I attempted to pass both Salvadori and Morbidelli, but I went onto a dirty line and, with the track becoming very slippery, I lost the front. I’m very sorry for involving Salvadori in the crash. That was not my intention. As soon as I fell, I went to check on him, and I was very relieved to see that he was OK.”
Savadori commented on the incident: “Another rider did a mistake and I did a very big crash. So fortunately, I’m not injured, nothing broken in my body, but I’m not at 100%. I hope to be in a better shape for the race.”
The penalty adds to a growing list of sanctions for the Pramac Yamaha team this weekend, with team-mate Jack Miller also receiving a double Long Lap penalty for speeding in pit lane during the Sprint, eventually finishing in 16th place.
The incident occurred during wet conditions at Jerez, where rain disrupted the Sprint race and affected track grip, contributing to the loss of front-end traction that led to the collision.
