Real Sociedad Win Copa del Rey: Fans Celebrate in San Sebastián

Real Sociedad celebrated its fourth Copa del Rey title with a massive public celebration in San Sebastián following a penalty shootout victory over Atlético de Madrid in the final held in Sevilla.

The Basque club secured the trophy after a 2-2 draw in extra time, with Pablo Marín scoring the decisive penalty to clinch the win. The victory marked the team’s first major domestic title since 2020, when their previous Copa del Rey triumph over Athletic Bilbao was celebrated under strict pandemic restrictions that prevented large gatherings.

Approximately 26,000 Real Sociedad fans traveled to Sevilla for the match, while thousands more filled the fan zone in the Jardines de Alderdi Eder in San Sebastián, overlooking La Concha Bay. Giant screens were also set up in ten municipalities across Gipuzkoa to allow local supporters to follow the game collectively.

The team is scheduled to arrive at San Sebastián Airport in Hondarribia on Sunday at approximately 1:10 p.m., before proceeding to the club’s training facilities in Zubieta by 2:00 p.m. For an initial reunion with supporters.

The main public celebration will take place on Monday, beginning in the morning with a security operation affecting city traffic, culminating in an afternoon event where the team bus will travel from Anoeta Stadium to San Sebastián City Hall.
