Rebels ‘keep fighting’ over Taliban declaration of victory

Ahmad Massoud, chief commander of the National Resistance Front, who is resisting the re-established Taliban in Afghanistan, said “we will continue to fight”.

Massoud expressed his will to fight back, saying that the resistance forces still remain in the Panjishir Valley through a voice recording released on Facebook on the 6th. Massoud’s statement came after yesterday’s announcement by the Taliban that they had seized the Panjishir Valley, the last stronghold of resistance forces in Afghanistan.

The National Resistance Front also claimed on Twitter that day, “We retreated temporarily into the mountains, but regrouped again.”

The National Resistance Front said, “We chose the latter between the option of embarking on a final standoff at Mazarak at the risk of annihilation of the leadership, or withdrawing to an advantageous position to continue the struggle.”

He also said that the current leadership of the National Resistance Front is unharmed and full of morale, saying, “We are staying in the proper terrain to take the next stage of resistance.”

Meanwhile, on the same day, the Taliban side warned the resistance forces that “Welcome back to normal life,” but warned that “If they attempt to overthrow the upcoming new Taliban regime, they will regard it as a rebellion and take action.”
