Red Bull Racing “Fuel system evacuated and supply shortage” / F1 Bahrain GP Final[F1-Gate .com]

Helmut Marko, Red Bull Racing’s motorsport adviser, explained the cause of the retirement of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez just before the end of the 2022 F1 opening round Bahrain Grand Prix, which generated a lot of speculation.

Max Verstappen, who had an engine trouble, slowly lost power and returned to the pit by inertia, almost stopping on the course. Meanwhile, his teammate Sergio Perez spun on the final lap of the race and the engine stopped.

Red Bull Racing moved to deny rumors that the car may not have had enough fuel. The official statement said the problem was related to the fuel pump in the F1 power unit. The fuel pump is a standard part and is manufactured by Calsonic, Italy, and is used by all teams.

Now Helmut Marko elaborated on the nature of the problem.

“Simply put, the fuel supply system was evacuated and the engine ran out of fuel,” Helmut Marko told F1-Insider.

“I think we can already solve the problem in Saudi Arabia this weekend.”

In addition, Helmut Marko denied speculation that there was not enough fuel to reach the end of the race.

“I’m not going to give you the exact numbers, but there was still enough gas in the tanks of both cars,” Helmut Marko added.

For Red Bull Racing, the Bahrain Grand Prix had the worst result of no points, but Helmut Marco is confident that he will be able to make up for it in the next Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

“Basically, we were fast enough in Bahrain,” Helmut Marko explained.

“I couldn’t harness my potential at the crucial moment. In Saudi Arabia, I’ll be back at full speed and fight for victory.”
