Rockstar Games is releasing a physical edition of Red Dead Redemption for the PlayStation 5 on May 7, 2026, priced at $30. This follows the previously announced digital release of the game, alongside its expansion Undead Nightmare, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2 and mobile devices on December 2, 2025.
The updated version of Red Dead Redemption will feature significant enhancements for current-generation consoles, including gameplay at 60 frames per second and support for up to 4K resolution. Players with PlayStation 4 versions of the game will receive a free upgrade to the PS5 version and will be able to transfer their save data.
Enhanced Visuals and Performance
Beyond the improved frame rate and resolution, the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Red Dead Redemption will also benefit from enhanced image quality and High Dynamic Range (HDR) support. The Nintendo Switch 2 version will include features like DLSS, HDR, mouse controls, and high-resolution 60fps performance optimized for the new hardware.

The release marks the first time Red Dead Redemption will be playable on iOS and Android devices, with mobile-friendly controls. Netflix subscribers will also have access to the game at no additional cost through the platform’s mobile games section.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Upgrade Still Planned
Separately, an enhanced edition of Red Dead Redemption 2 is still slated for release in 2026, offering 60fps gameplay and 4K resolution on next-generation consoles. This upgrade was initially announced but experienced a shift in its release timeline.
Both Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare will include all previously released single-player content and bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition. Undead Nightmare, the zombie-themed expansion, allows players to battle a zombie plague that has overtaken the frontier.
The original Red Dead Redemption, released in 2010, follows the story of John Marston as he attempts to leave his violent past behind. The updated releases aim to bring the critically acclaimed open-world experience to a wider audience and take advantage of modern hardware capabilities.
