The complaint,lodged in Northern California court,accuses Anthropic of⁣ violating Reddit’s user agreement by ⁤commercially exploiting user-generated content without consent.

The lawsuit marks a meaningful moment as ‍a major tech company legally challenges an AI startup over its AI training data practices. Reddit’s Chief Legal Officer Ben Lee ⁤stated the company “will not tolerate profit-seeking ‍entities like Anthropic commercially exploiting Reddit content…without any return for‍ redditors or respect for their privacy,” according⁤ to TechCrunch.

An Anthropic spokesperson told CNBC,‍ “We disagree with Reddit’s claims and⁢ will defend ourselves vigorously.”
