Reddit ⁢filed a lawsuit this week against Perplexity, Oxylabs UAB, AWM ⁣Proxy, and Serp⁢ Api,​ alleging they engaged in unauthorized ⁢ AI scraping. The lawsuit,filed in federal court in New York,claims the four companies collected millions of Reddit posts with the intention of monetizing the data.

Thes “scrapers” circumvent technical ‍safeguards⁤ to steal ‍data, which is⁢ then sold to​ clients for AI training ‍purposes. Reddit⁤ is a particularly valuable target due ⁣to ⁢its large size‍ and ​the dynamic ⁢nature‍ of its user-generated‍ content, according to Ben Lee, ⁢Reddit’s chief legal officer, in a statement cited ⁤by the Associated Press.
