Arsenal Team News: Injury Updates and Suspensions Ahead of Liverpool Match
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is set to give Riccardo Calafiori a chance in the upcoming match against Liverpool, as Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber are still recovering from injuries.
Calafiori was forced to resign in the second half of the Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday, a competition in which Saka and Timber did not participate.
Arteta provided an update on the team’s injuries, stating, “We’ll do our best to make him available, but obviously, it’s very uncertain. [Calafiori] needed more testing yesterday, he got some. He’s going to get some more today, from there we’ll know because last time we thought he was really bad, and he played two days after that or three, let’s see how it goes.”
Regarding Saka, Arteta said, “[Saka] had some practice on grass. [Because] this week we have a special day.” Wood, on the other hand, participated in his first session after being out for a while, and Arteta noted, “We expected him to bounce back further. [Where] is he at the moment, but again, we have to wait and see.”
However, Arteta will definitely be without the suspended William Saliba, who has not played in any of the Gunners’ league matches so far. Saliba’s absence will likely see Gabriel Magalhaes partner with another center-back.
When asked about his plans in the center of defense, Arteta said, “We have different options. Players who have played there before. It is true that the cooperation is very stable, we have to find different solutions.”
