Rejects central position; High Court grants waiver of vaccine interval

Cochin | The High Court adjourned the 84-day interval between two doses of covi shield vaccines. The court ruled that those interested could receive a second dose of the vaccine after 28 days. The High Court intervened in a petition filed by Kitex seeking relief from the vaccine break.

The High Court directed the Central Government to make changes in the Covin Portal accordingly. However, the court ruled that the exemption did not apply to free vaccines provided by the government.

The Center had yesterday told the high court that the Kovid vaccine could not be waived. This was rejected by the High Court.

The Center had told the court that the 84-day interval between the two doses was decided by the experts. The exemption was given to students, workers and athletes going abroad. The Centre’s affidavit states that the action was taken in view of the emergency situation.

Forty-five days after taking the first dose, Kitex approached the High Court stating that the second dose had not been approved. Earlier, the Center had told the High Court that the 84-day break was not due to vaccine shortage but out of effectiveness.
