“Relief materials sent by Turkey earlier were returned by Pakistan as aid”

Islamabad ∙ The controversy involved relief materials sent by Pakistan to earthquake-ravaged Turkey. It is alleged that Pakistan has now sent back the same materials that Turkey sent to Pakistan as part of flood mitigation. Pakistani journalist Shahid Masood has revealed that the relief materials sent by Turkey to those affected by the floods in Pakistan’s Sindh province last year were transferred to Turkey by Pakistan after the earthquake.

Shahid’s revelation was made through Pakistan’s GNN news channel. Pakistan sent relief materials and a rescue team to earthquake-stricken Turkey in a C-130 aircraft. He explained that Pakistan had repackaged and sent back the same relief aid sent by Turkey.

The claim came at a time when Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was directly assessing the relief efforts and rescue mission in earthquake-hit Turkey, which was a huge embarrassment for Pakistan. An estimated 45,000 people were killed in the earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria earlier this month. More than two lakh buildings were damaged. As many people are yet to be found, the death toll is expected to rise.
