Report: Explosion in Europapark Rust

A big fire broke out in Europapark Rust. Several explosions are said to have occurred beforehand. The trigger is still unknown.

A fire broke out in Europapark Rust on Monday afternoon. This is reported by the Swiss news medium “20minuten.ch”. A reporter from the portal who was on site stated that there were two to three loud bangs and then a large fire could be seen. The ride nearby where he was at the time was then evacuated.

Numerous Twitter users shared a video of large clouds of dark gray smoke rising high. The operators of a Dutch podcast about the amusement park, After Park Lounge, also suspect on Twitter that the fire in the “Spanish Arena” could have broken out.

According to the “Badische Zeitung”, the column of smoke is visible as far as the Kaiserstuhl. Fire engines and ambulances are on their way to the park. A helicopter is said to be circling over the area. The background and the extent of the fire are not yet known.

The last time there was a fire in the park was in 2018

Most recently, there was a major fire in the amusement park between Offenburg and Freiburg in May 2018. At that time, around 500 emergency services had to come from all over Baden to bring the fire under control and secure the site.

Europapark Rust in Baden-Württemberg is the most visited leisure and theme park in German-speaking countries. Last year, the park had more than five million visitors.
