Mark your calendars, Delhi! The full dress rehearsal for our city’s grand Republic Day celebrations is just around the corner, slated for Thursday, January 23rd. Here’s what you need to know to stay informed and well-connected throughout the day.
The parade rehearsal will commence at 10:30 AM, originating from the iconic Vijay Chowk, and will march forward towards the historic Red Fort. Traffic management plans are in place to ensure a smooth and secure event along the route: Vijay Chowk to Kartavyapath, then ‘C’-Hexagon, followed by Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, and finally concluding at the Red Fort.
Traffic Restrictions and Diversions
22nd and 23rd January are expected to see significant traffic restrictions and diversions. Kartavyapath will be closed to traffic from 6 PM on the 22nd until the parade concludes, with no cross-traffic allowed at Rafi Marg, Janpath, and Man Singh Road post 11 PM.
Commercial vehicles, including light, medium, and heavy trucks, will not be allowed to enter Delhi from 10 PM on the 22nd till 1:30 PM on the 23rd. ‘C’-Hexagon-India Gate will be closed from 9:15 AM on the 23rd, while Tilak Marg, BSZ Marg, and Subhash Marg will experience restricted traffic from 10:30 AM.
Metro services will remain operational throughout the day, providing commuters with a viable alternative. However, several Delhi City Bus Services will be temporarily curtailed at strategic locations, including Park Street/Udyan Marg, Aram Bagh Road, ISBT Kashmiri Gate, ISBT Sarai Kale Khan, and Tis Hazari Court, among others.
Inter-state buses will also face diversions, with buses from Ghaziabad bound for Shivaji Stadium terminating at Bhairon Road, and those coming from NH-24 at ISBT Anand Vihar. The traffic diversions will be implemented at various borders, including Tikri, Jharoda, Dhansa, Daraula, Jhatikra, Nanakhedi/Badusaria, Surakhpur, and others.
Lastly, sub-conventional aerial platforms such as para-gliders, hang gliders, drones, and other unmanned aerial vehicles are prohibited within Delhi’s airspace until February 15. Let’s all contribute to a safe and successful rehearsal by staying informed and adhering to the traffic guidelines.
