Fury of the Gods”, “The Flash”, and “Blue Beetle” have indeed brought a major setback to the company. : “The performance of our studio is not really as good as expected – including the fact that we also encountered some challenges at the end of last year – but we are very optimistic about this year, and this year will give the opportunity to we won’t gain much room for growth in the next two years.”

CFO admitted Discovery Gunnar Wiedenfels also found at the meeting that the vast majority of last year’s superhero films did not perform well: “In terms of films, it is clear that this genre will continue to be an important and popular product. But finally A year was a great example of how, while we had some of the biggest market successes in studio history, the industry was also facing some daunting challenges when it came to superheroes.”

Weidenfels specifically pointed out that the new version of “The Color Purple”, which cost almost US$100 million to produce but only recovered US$68 million at the box office, and the first episode sold over US$1 billion at the box office, but the No sequel has been released to “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” (Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom), which has only about 430 million US dollars left, performed satisfactory.

Zaslav reiterated his high confidence in the future of the company: “The strategic advantage we really have as a company – and I talk about this often – is the strength and depth of our franchises, which, in my opinion, will be an important driver for business growth and asset value. We want to deliver on our promise to bring back the best of these franchises. As I often say, these big IPs are underutilized, and we’re trying to develop their potential.”

Although the DC Universe movies failed one after the other last year, Zaslav is still very optimistic about the future of the newly rebooted DC Universe: “We haven’t made a “Superman” movie for more than ten years, and “Superman” written and directed by James Gunn is finally about to be released. Filming officially starts next week. I’ve already seen a little bit of what James and Peter (Safran, co -president of DC Films) is planning it, and it really shows that the new era of DC is under their leadership, It’s going to be an exciting direction.”
