Revenge on the Pitch: Can Park Yoon-Jeong-Ho Outshine Kaisedo in the U-20 Women’s Soccer Showdown
U-20 Women’s World Cup: Korea’s Revenge Match Against Colombia’s Ace Linda Caicedo
The Korean national team is set to face host country Colombia in the round of 16 of the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The number one target to watch for Korea is Linda Caicedo, who plays for Real Madrid and is also the person responsible for the frustration suffered by the women’s national soccer team at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Caicedo, who was born in 2005, is a young and talented player who has already made a name for herself on the international stage. She scored a goal against Korea at the Women’s World Cup last year, causing pain for the Korean team with her surprise mid-range shot following a solo dribble breakthrough.
Caicedo is also participating in the U-20 Women’s World Cup and has already led her team to victory by scoring a goal in the first match of the tournament against Australia. As Korea prepares to face Colombia in the round of 16, they must block Caicedo in order to increase their chances of advancing to the quarterfinals.
Coach Park Yoon-jung, who is leading the U-20 national team, has experience watching Caicedo’s performance as a coach at the Women’s World Cup last year. Park Yoon-jung’s current star midfielder Bae Ye-bin, who caught Coach Bell’s eye last year and was selected for the national team, will participate in her sisters’ ‘revenge match’ after about a year.
Bae Ye-bin has played in all group matches of this tournament and led Park Yoon-jung to the round of 16. In the round of 16, she has been given the important task of overcoming the fierce opposition of Caicedo. Ahead of the match, Bae Ye-bin said, “I was the youngest in both the 2022 (Costa Rica U-20 World Cup) and 2023 (Australia-New Zealand World Cup), but now I am leading the team with my teammates as a key player.”
Bae Ye-bin added, “All the teams participating in the World Cup have the goal of winning, so I don’t think there will be any easy matches.” Korea will face Colombia at the Pascual Guerrero Stadium in Cali, Colombia at 10 am on the 12th.
