Sony Launches ECX350F: The Smallest and Brightest OLED Micro Display
Sony Semiconductor Solutions Co., Ltd. (SSS) has announced the launch of the ECX350F OLED micro display, boasting a 0.44-inch FHD resolution and the industry’s smallest pixel size and maximum brightness.
Enhanced AR Experience with Compact Design
The ECX350F is a thin and light OLED micro display designed for high-visibility AR glasses. By utilizing a new EL structure and micro lens, the display achieves FHD resolution within a compact panel while reaching a peak luminance of 10,000 cd/㎡, approximately double that of existing products.
This innovative product is expected to not only reduce the size and weight of AR glasses but also provide users with an enhanced AR experience through clear and high-resolution image expression.
Optimized Luminous Efficiency and Visibility
The ECX350F optimizes luminous efficiency even in small pixel sizes by introducing a newly developed semiconductor process for micro display production. The driving voltage and luminous efficiency can be balanced through the EL structure exclusively designed by SSS, providing excellent visibility with FHD resolution using the industry’s smallest pixel size of 5.1µm and the industry’s highest brightness of 10,000cd/㎡.
Reduced Bezel and Compact Design
The bezel, which was difficult to narrow depending on the width of the display’s internal circuitry, has been reduced to 1.14mm at both the top and bottom by introducing a new circuit board design and assembly process. This allows AR glasses to be made thinner and lighter while maintaining the FHD pixel count and realizing a short side size of 7.99mm, a 24% reduction compared to existing products.
Variable Black Frame Function for Enhanced Display
The ECX350F features a variable black frame function that can display the effect at an arbitrary position within the display area of the device when receiving videos with an arbitrary resolution of FHD or lower. This function is performed by the microdisplay device itself, making it easier to display the input resolution and contributing to low power consumption and short waiting times.
