Revolutionizing Healthcare: Thailand’s Department of Medical Services Aims to Make Traditional Thai Medicine a Top 3 Contender in Asia
Department of Medical Services Pushes Research for Hospital Use, Supporting Thai Medicine Among Top 3 in Asia
Dr. Sakarn Bunnag, Deputy Director General of the Department of Medical Services, announced that the department has discussed restructuring policies and guidelines for research and development work within the agency. This move aligns with the country’s scientific policy, Research and Innovation (NRCT), and includes creating guidelines to incentivize researchers to focus on research and development in accordance with the law announced to promote the use of research and innovation.
Key medical issues were discussed to elevate the country’s medical services, making them more efficient. These include managing critical disease knowledge at the 13 health zones to utilize data in preparing guidelines that reduce disease incidence and mortality rates among Thais. Additionally, an information system will be created to link public health management information with data on the availability of medical services, facilities, and experts.
“This is a great opportunity for the NRCT and the Department of Medical Services to discuss and exchange guidelines for budget management in the area of NRCT. This collaboration will strengthen the agency and provide effective guidelines for research management in line with the policy and respond to the country’s needs. It will also encourage researchers to engage in research and development for the country, effectively carrying out the work as expected in the future.”
